The Donkin Reserve

A wholesome family outing spot offering spectacular views of Port Elizabeth

Offering the best views over the city, The Donkin Reserve was proclaimed an open space in perpetuity by Sir Rufane Donkin. Now an important icon of Port Elizabeth’s heritage, it stands prominently off Belmont Terrace featuring a stone pyramid monument. The monument was erected by Dir Donkin and bares an inscription in memory of his late wife, Elizabeth, after whom the city was named. The second attraction on Donkin Reserve is the Lighthouse which was built in 1861. The lighthouse is open to visitors and offer breathtaking views over the city, harbour and Indian Ocean. With pal-lined walkways, benches and a massive lawn where you can enjoy a picnic and let the kids run around to their hearts’ content.

Sundays River Cruise

Sundays River Ferry Trip

Meander down the Sundays River with a drink in hand, the breeze in your hair, and the beauty of the Sunshine Coast sprawled at your feet. The Sundays River borders Addo Elephant National Park and runs through the Alexandria/Colchester dune fields. As you cruise down stream you are able to see a beautiful variety of bird life and take in the natural beauty of this lush coast line. You can enjoy a meal and drinks during the cruise, or afterwards on the banks.

The Sundays River Ferry  river cruises are only a 35-minute drive from No 5 by Mantis, and when you book on the Baycation with Mantis package you receive Ferry trip and upgrade your experience to include sand sledding for only R100 per person.

Take Note:

The boat can only run should there be 7 or more persons. Please check if there are trips running should you be less than seven. Additional fees can be paid to have the boat run should you be less than seven guests and the ferry is not running. These fees to be discussed with operator.
